Give Yourself a Little Christmas

Give Yourself A Little Christmas, co-produced by Brooks and Nashville musician/producer, Chris Leuzinger, is less “commercial Christmas”, and more “sentimental Christmas” with Brooks introducing two originals as well as putting her own unique spin on four traditional songs, “O Holy Night”, “Silent Night”, “Do You Hear What I Hear”, and a moving rendition of “Auld Lang Syne”.

Featuring beautiful vocal performances, the EP is an excellent representation of Brooks’ range as an artist. “I wanted to offer some great music, both new and familiar to enjoy throughout the season. Something that would not increase the noise, but offer a pleasant backdrop to navigate the chaos, and perhaps a moment or two to reflect on the things that mean the most to each of us.

The Upside

The Upside, recorded during 2012 in Nashville, was co-produced by Brooks and Nashville music veteran, Chris Leuzinger (guitar player on all Garth Brooks’ albums). Leuzinger assembled an all-star team of Nashville’s finest musicians to play on the album. Joining his performance on electric and acoustic guitar, was Eddie Bayers on drums (Sting, Elton John, Bette Midler), Dave Pomeroy on bass (Elton John, Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss), Gary Prim on piano/keyboards (Reba McEntire, KT Oslin, Patti Labelle), Billy Panda on guitar/mandolin (Lonestar, The Oakridge Boys) and Steve Patrick on trumpet (The Chieftains, Elton John, Alison Krauss).

Bob Bullock, who engineered on some of Shania Twain’s smash albums for producer Mutt Lange, was also a big contributor to the project by engineering and mixing the album. Brooks wrote eight and co-wrote three of the 11 songs featured on the recording.

The Spaces In Between, released in 2009, was the follow up to Linda’s critically acclaimed debut, Under a Painted Moon, which earned her an East Coast Music Award nomination for Female Artist of the Year.

Biography

With a recording career that spans over 20 years, this latest double album of 22 original songs will mark singer-songwriter and musician (piano, clarinet) Linda Brooks’ 5th and most ambitious release. Presented exclusively as a downloadable companion album to her book ORCHESTRA IN MY GARDEN: Lessons Learned From Digging Deep it celebrates her first turn as an author, and joins her passion and understanding for nature and the inspiration it offers us all, with her love of music and writing in 17 essayed reflections on the garden as a metaphor for life.

Throughout her career, Linda, an ECMA nominated artist, has performed in both Canada and the US, has been played across both terrestrial and satellite radio, nationally and internationally, on CBC radio, and has been interviewed across several entertainment platforms.

Two of her albums, The Upside and Give Yourself A Little Christmas were recorded in Nashville and produced by legendary Garth Brooks studio guitarist Chris Leuzinger. Her original song  Nothing Like You, was included in the soundtrack of Moving Day, an independent film (starring Victor Garber, Will Sasso, and Gabrielle Miller) in which she also acted.

Linda began her performing career with stage credits including “Maria” in The Sound of Music and in more recent years has appeared as a recurring character on CBC’s Mr. D where her song Sunshine was also featured in an episode. As an actor, she has also appeared in smaller roles in the CBC hockey miniseries Canada-Russia 1972 (as Lynda Dryden) and in the mini-series Beach Girls (starring Rob Lowe and Julia Ormond).

One of 5 children born into a musical family in New Brunswick, Canada, Linda has never lost touch with her third-generation farming family heritage, or the community that nurtured her as a performer early on. In the spring of 2012, after a devastating flood ripped through her hometown of Perth-Andover she joined with other artists in a benefit concert to help those affected. For this display of compassion, her inspiring CD The Upside, “about finding strength within”, and for her positivity as an artist, Linda was formally recognized by the Nova Scotia House of Assembly in 2012.

In earlier years, Linda put herself through university, performing in dinner theatre, which she credits to this day with having contributed to her ease on stage.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mount Allison University, and a Law Degree from Dalhousie University. She is a married mom to two now grown boys, and a devoted golden retriever.

Beyond the connections between nature, life and music that she shares through this stunning project, Linda hopes to inspire others to follow their own callings, to embrace the insight that nature affords us all, and to discover the untapped potential in ourselves, at any age.
